Melbourne FREE Things to Do!

Melbourne is a fantastic city, and I am sure you will have some of the best experiences of your time in Australia while visiting. However, you don’t need to have a huge budget to enjoy this city; there are plenty of fun things to do for free.

I love exploring this city and with so many things to go and see makes it an ideal travellers city. There is a great coffee culture in Melbourne and with loads of street art the city is very vibrant!

Melbourne is simply one of my favourite cities in the entire world. I love it.  Here are my top 5 things to do for free in Melbourne.

Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens of Melbourne are a beautiful area to visit, and are free to enter certain days of the month. You can walk around and experience the natural beauty of the country, or go on tours to see all kinds of different plants and natural life.

Some of the most rare and beautiful plants in the world can be found in these two special gardens, and the iconic landscapes and beautiful views will provide lifelong memories.

If you are looking for a day trip or a place to picnic and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere maybe even with a glass of wine from the Yarra Valley, these gardens are the perfect place to visit.

National Gallery

The National Gallery in Melbourne hosts multiple free exhibits of some of Australia’s most unique and beautiful artwork. You can view paintings, sculptures, and other types of artwork, and can visit talks and discussions as well.

With these unique opportunities, any visit to this Melbourne gallery is sure to be unforgettable. I always love a free museum.

Out of all the cities in Australia, Melbourne generally hosts the most festivals. Therefore, no matter what time of year you are visiting, there is a pretty high chance that you’ll be able to catch a festival.

In March, you can take part in the Moomba Festival, where there will be tons of free entertainment throughout the parks. The Fringe Festival in September and the Melbourne Festival in October offer many free events and entertainment as well.

Festivals are a perfect way to get outside, meet people, and be a part of local Australian events.

St. Kilda

If you are looking for a great free day trip, look no further; the St. Kilda pier is a must-see for any trip to Australia. With its stunning views, this area is a popular spot for visitors, whether you want to fish, ride a bike, or just enjoy the pier.

In addition, you can check out downtown St. Kilda, where you will find all kinds of shopping, food, entertainment, and nightlife. It certainly offers a unique atmosphere and loads of colourful characters.

With its iconic art and architecture, Federation Square in Melbourne is a great place to spend the day looking around. Located in the downtown area, this square is known for cultural events, tourism opportunities, and world-renowned attractions.

You can also have a lot of fun window shopping at the extraordinary collection of specialty stores, or catch some live entertainment on the streets. Buskers anyone? No matter what you decide to do, you will have a fantastic time visiting the square.
