The Whitsundays – A place to visit
The Whitsundays is easily one of the most amazing places in Australia. It is one of my favourite places for a holiday. This collection of islands found off the coast near Queensland is absolutely stunning and filled with all kinds of activities to participate in.
With 74 total islands, there is a huge variety in both activities and type of experience; no matter what kind of vacation you are looking for, these islands are a must-see destination if you are visiting Australia.
The sand is so fine and luscious you need to be careful with your camera or phone as it can get into the nooks and crannies of your camera!
With their location off of the Australian coast, these islands are completely stunning. From the coast, you will have a breathtaking view of the ocean as well as the Great Barrier Reef.
With the islands’ white sands and aqua water, they all have their own unique beauty.
With 74 islands, there is a great variety in activities that you can participate in as well as enjoying the look and feel of these beautiful islands.
Some areas are more populated, including Airlie Beach which is the gateway to the Whitsundays (on the mainland). Here, there is a free public park and swimming pool; Airlie Beach Lagoon.
While you’re there, you could also check out the seaside markets for some shopping or just browsing. Airlie beach is a good place to party. I party a lot less these days but a few years back I use to party here like crazy, it is all a blur.
Other areas, such as Hamilton Island, have their own activities to participate in and you can even stay the night in luxury. Question is; do you want to treat yourself?
If you would prefer a more isolated beach, you have that option as well; several beaches, including Whitehaven, Boathaven, and Cannonvale offer a more secluded spot to walk or just sunbathe.
You can also try out Coral Island or Grey’s Bay in Bowen for more places to go on walks or find secret lookouts.
Whether you prefer a more populated or isolated beach, Whitsundays has enough variety that there is definitely something everyone will enjoy. You just can’t go wrong.
There are limitless opportunities for great and memorable activities in the Whitsundays.
The waters are calm, but with enough of a breeze that they are perfect for sailing or jet skiing. If you choose to go sailing, you can go on your own personal trip, or join other visitors on boat.
These cruises are available as day tours or overnight cruises. You can also take a tour by plane or helicopter, or even go parasailing or skydiving.
Remember there is also some great snorkelling here too – I love snorkelling so every time I am in the Whitsundays I make sure I go snorkelling.
For something a little less expensive, you also have the option of fishing, hiking, and camping. There are plenty of great spots on the island for either activity, and there’s always a great spot to picnic. No matter your budget or the type of vacation you prefer, there is something here for everyone.
Whitsundays hosts several events throughout the year, including the Spring Carnival, the Airlie Beach Festival of Music, and the Whitsunday SUP Challenge. These events are a great way to get out and meet people, socialise and meet other travellers.
In the Whitsundays, you will find a huge variety in activities and areas to explore, in addition to all kinds of events and entertainment.
With so many amazing activities and opportunities, as well as the incredible natural beauty of the area, Whitsundays is one of my favourite places to visit to relax and REALLY feel like I am on holiday.
Have I missed something? Or something you don’t agree with? I would love to hear about your trip to the Whitsundays! Let me know in the comments!
