Studying in Australia

The application process

You will have to apply for the desired course. You have two methods of doing so:

1) Directly contacting the education provider

In order to do so, you will need to download the application provided by the education provider; you can find it on the site.

In case you apply to multiple education providers, you will need to send an application to each one of them.

2) Using an agent

There are many institutions that use an agent to help the application process move faster and more easily. These agents usually have a site, but you can also get in touch with them via phone.

You will also need to send some supporting documentation. Based on what course you focus on, you will need a specific set of documents, and there are a variety of them.

You do need something that will showcase a proficiency in English, and you will also require a certificate that showcases your previous studies.

A certificate to show previous work experience is also necessary. These details and lots more other information are in my eBook.

Receiving your Letter of Offer

A ‘Letter of Offer’ will be sent to you when the application is successful. You have to reply to the letter and send an acceptance that will be sent to the institution.

Mailing is the best option here, although some institutions will require scanning. You should see the ‘Letter of Offer’ as a type of contract, as it will include the course you want to pursue, the conditions you have to follow, as well as other important details.

You have to keep in mind that if you want a refund and don’t start or finish a course this is how you will receive a refund.

Tip:

  • Make sure that you read the ‘Letter of Offer’ with extra care before acceptance.
  • Check the refund arrangements and all the other rights.
  • If you are unhappy with any terms, then you should not accept the ‘Letter of Offer’.
  • It’s always a good idea to keep a copy for you, because this will help you protect your rights if you need to make a claim.

Confirmation of Enrolment

Once the offer is accepted and it is paid, you will be able to receive an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment.

With this, you will be able to see the course data, the length of the course, and the total amount of course fees.

Visa application

People that ask the Department of Immigration and Citizenship for a student visa need to share the details of their Confirmation of Enrolment within the visa application.

Even if you share a paper visa application, you still need to provide the electronic confirmation of enrolment.

Most of the time, you will see that the Foreign Affairs or the Department of Defence-sponsored students and the secondary school exchange students will not require such a certificate.

Try and ensure that you fulfil all the requirements, as afterwards you will need to pay the tuition fees.

Once you are here and travelling, you can take lots of trips away from your studies as a backpacker.
